Lochaber Win 2017 North U17 Ferguson Transport & Shipping Inter Area Tournament | |
25 September 2017 Lochaber were the winners at The Ferguson Transport & Shipping U17 Inter Area matches which took place at Spean Bridge on Sunday 24 September 2017. These matches provided an opportunity for players to stake a claim for selection for the North District U17 squad to play their South counterparts at An Aird this Sunday, 1 October 2017. This year’s competition saw a round-robin format with the four squads from Inverness, Lochaber, Skye & Wester Ross and Badenoch playing each other in 30 minute games. All the league matches were closely contested and all players gave a good account of themselves throughout the day’s competition. Lochaber topped the league on five points, only dropping one point to the Skye and Wester Ross team. Badenoch clinched second place two points behind Lochaber. Lochaber captain Calum MacDougall was presented with the Ferguson Transport & Shipping Shield by Colin MacKinnon. Youth Coaches David Pringle, John Matheson, Drew McNeil, Jim Price, Ally Clark, Peter McIntyre, John Gibson and Steven Shand not only selected and coaching the Area squads but also selected the 16 player North District squad to play their South counter-parts. David Pringle will coach the North Squad and all selected players will be informed in next few days. The squad will be formally announced once the players have accepted their place. Ronnie Campbell refereed the tournament and Lochaber Camanachd Club were again excellent hosts. |
