Lochaber Ladies 6 Skye Camanachd Ladies 2 | |
12 September 2013 Skye Camanachd Ladies went down 6-2 to Lochaber Ladies in their WCA Marine Harvest North Division 2 match at Spean Bridge on Sunday 8 September 2013. The sides were level on points at the top of the table going into this game although Lochaber had played a game more. This was Lochaber’s final match and a win for them would leave Skye having to win their one remaining match – against Strathglass at Cannich – to force a title play off. A draw or a Skye win at Spean Bridge would hand the Islanders the title. Jenna Beaton and Catriona Gibb returned to the Skye side for this 1pm throw up, after missing the 2-1 win over Lochaber in Portree a fortnight ago. Lochaber showed what a good side they were in Portree and they included Scotland players Kirsty Delaney and Kathleen Cameron as well as Christy MacIntyre who was a stand-out in the earlier game against the Islanders. Both sides created early chances and it was Lochaber who took the lead when Rebecca Stafford slipped the ball past Skye keeper Sarah Corrigall from the edge of the D. However Skye responded in the best way possible and they were level just a couple of minutes later when Lorna MacRae netted when she sent a low drive into the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-1. There was no further scoring by the end of an even first period. The home side stepped up a gear at the start of the second period and they surged into a 4-1 lead thanks to goals from Kirsty MacDonald and a Zoe Smith double. Anna MacDonald gave Skye hope when she pulled a goal back to make it 4-2. The hope was short lived though as Kirsty MacDonald got here second to make it 5-2 and Laura MacIntyre stretched Lochaber into a 6-2 lead. Skye now know that they need to beat Strathglass in Cannich on Sunday 29 September 2013 to force a title play-off against Lochaber.
