Lochaber Ladies 4 Skye Camanachd Ladies 2 | |
21 April 2016 Skye Camanachd Ladies suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost 4-2 to Lochaber Ladies in their Marine Harvest National Division 1 match at the Spean Bridge on Sunday 17 April 2016. Skye Camanachd Ladies Head Coach Robbie Gordon welcomed Jenna Beaton, Caitlin MacLean and Emma Gordon back to the squad after they missed the league win over Badenoch & Strathspey at the Dell a fortnight earlier. However Anna MacDonald was missing. Lochaber Ladies also went into the match on a high having beaten league champions Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies at Spean Bridge in their last outing and Aberdour in their opening league match. It was first blood to Lochaber as Scottish international Kirsty Delaney put them ahead when she got on the end of a cross ball from a corner to score. However Lorna MacRae got Skye back on level terms, making it 1-1 with a tap-in after a good passing move with Jenna Beaton so the sides went into the break on level terms. Kirsty Delaney put Lochaber back in front when she scored following a scramble in the D. But Scotland forward Lorna MacRae levelled for a second time it make it 2-2 with a long-range shot from around 30 yards which left the keeper stranded. As the match moved into the closing stages, Kirsty MacDonald put Lochaber in front for a third time when she beat Skye keeper Sarah-Jane Ferguson from around the penalty spot. This time there was no Skye comeback though and with just 3 minutes remaining, Amy Disher played in a corner which Kirsty MacDonald flicked into the air before volleying the ball into the net for a spectacular finish which made it 4-2. The victory gives the Lochaber three wins for their opening three fixtures and their next scheduled match is a trip to the Dell to play Badenoch & Strathspey on Sunday 1 May 2016. They play Skye in the return league fixture in Portree on Saturday 28 May 2016. Skye are in second place in the table and they only trail leaders Lochaber on goal difference although they have played a game more. Next up for Skye is a meeting with the All-Stars at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 30 April 2016. Glasgow Mid Argyll and Badenoch Strathspey are still very much in title contention although they each have only one win from their opening three fixtures. It promises to be a very competitive league with everything still to play for.
