Lochaber 4 Skye Camanachd 1 | |
19 May 2018 Skye Camanachd lost 4-1 in their Marine Harvest Premiership match against Lochaber at Spean Bridge on Saturday 19 May 2018. Lochaber had John MacKenzie back in their side but Brian MacDonald was out injured. Brennan MacDonald, who came off injured in the heavy defeat against Oban Camanachd the previous week, started on the bench and player / manager Neil MacDonald came into the side at full back whilst Martin Johnstone returned after injury. Veteran Iain Murray and youngster James Morrison came into the Skye squad in place of Stewart Grant and Ally “Spod” MacLeod. With a number of players missing, Gilleasbuig MacDonald answered the call to join the squad for the first time this season. Danny Morrison, Jordan Murchison and Ally MacDonald remained out. Shaun Nicolson gave Lochaber a 5 minute lead when he punished some hesitancy in the Skye defence as he pushed the ball home to make it 1-0. Skye lost full back Iain Murray after he twisted his knee on 10 minutes. Young Jamie Gillies came on in his place and played well. Skye equalised on 27 minutes. A Ruaraidh MacLeod run and shot produced a save from Lochaber keeper Ally MacDonald but Will Cowie was on hand to score from an acute angle. Lochaber were forced to replace John MacKenzie at the break as he had a calf problem. Lochaber finally pulled away in the final 20 minutes of the game but that was mainly because of a number of terrific earlier saves from Iain MacLeod in the Skye goal. Lochaber substitute Stuart Matheson punished some slack defensive play to make it 2-1 on 70 minutes. Kevin Ferguson was then given time and space to pick his spot just 4 minutes later whilst Shaun Nicolson got his second to round off the 4-1 win with just 10 minutes remaining. Lochaber are now two points ahead of second bottom Glenurquhart and they have a couple of games in hand. Skye remain rooted to the bottom of the table and they will try to pick up their first point of the season at home to Glenurquhart this coming Saturday.
