Lewis Camanachd 1 Skye Camanachd 9 | |
06 July 2015 The Skye Camanachd second team returned from Shawbost with both points after they beat Lewis Camanachd 9-1 in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 clash on Saturday 4 July 2015. Skye Camanachd boss Pringle made five changes to the sixteen-man squad which beat Aberdeen University 2-1 in the league at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree a week earlier. Neil John Campbell, John Gillies, Ruairidh MacLeod, Ross Nicolson and Connor Gilpin were added to the squad. However John Angus MacInnes, Iain MacLellan, James Pringle, Iain MacPherson, Kyle Pirie and Allan MacLeod all dropped out of the squad because of a mixture of work commitments, injuries and holidays. There was a first second team start for Ruairidh MacLeod and it was a more youthful Skye squad than in recent weeks. There was a swirling wind at Shawbost for this 2.30pm throw up and it favoured Skye in the first half. Donald Lamont and Will Church had early attempts for Lewis with most of Skye’s attempts at goal coming from distance However Skye started to get a grip of the game and Ross Nicolson celebrated his return from a broken collar-bone by scoring the opening goal following a corner. Angie MacDonald made it 2-0 with Skye’s very next attack. The visitors went further ahead when Angie MacDonald touched the ball past Lewis full back Kenny Murray before scoring his second and Skye’s third. Lewis made a couple of changes before the break with Scott Murray replacing Ronan Sinclair and Sean MacLeod coming on for an injured Conor MacDonald. Skye also made changes at half-time with Calum Gibb replacing Neil John Campbell and U14 player Connor Ross taking over from Ross Nicolson. Lewis made a good start to the second half and they pulled a goal back straight from the restart. Sean MacLeod beat his marker and he found Will Church who shot past Skye keeper Jamie Gannon to make it 3-1. Angie MacDonald was credited with his hat-trick goal as he pressured Seumus Charity who was trying to clear his lines and the ball ended up in the back of the net to make it 4-1. Skye were now in full flow and John Gillies supplied the finishing touch following another quick move to make it 5-1 Ruairidh MacLeod was first to react to a rebound off Lewis keeper Euan Gilmour and he knocked the ball into the net to make it 6-1 with his first goal at second team level. Skye now looked impressive and Angie MacDonald got his fourth to make it 7-1 Calum Gibb notched Skye’s eighth with a superb strike from distance. Skye rounded off the win when referee Calum Girvan pointed to the penalty spot and Ryan Morrison thumped the ball home to make it 9-1. Skye will be concerned that they had to withdraw full back David Grant through injury with 15 minutes remaining. Ryan Morrison came on and Angie MacDonald went to full back. Lewis Performed well early in the game and they will look to build on that for next Saturday’s league meeting with the Inverness seconds at the Bught Park. The most pleasing thing for Skye boss Davie Pringle will be how well his younger players performed and he will have a few selection headaches ahead of this weekend’s league meeting with Strathspey Camanachd at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. The Skye Camanachd second team now top Marine Harvest North Division 2. They are ahead of second place Caberfeidh reserves on goal difference but the Islanders have three games in hand. Third place Glengarry are just a point behind and they have played the same number of games as Skye.
