Early Goals Seal Skye Win - Kinlochshiel 0 Skye Camanachd 2 - UPDATED! | |
25 April 2013 The Skye Camanachd second team continued their good run with a 2-0 Marine Harvest North Division 2 win over Kinlochshiel at Kirkton on Saturday 20 April 2013. Kinlochshiel manager Colin Fraser was without Ross Fraser and Sandy MacDiarmid who were both suspended. He suffered a further blow before the game when keeper Iain Cameron was hit in the eye by the ball during the warm up. A last minute change saw Steven Fraser take over in goal. Donnie Martin took charge of the Skye side and he was without play-maker Paul MacKinnon, wing centre Chris MacLennan and defenders Andrew Banks and Neil John Campbell amongst others. The goals came early in the game. Skye took the lead after 18 minutes when Angie MacDonald netted when he was first onto a rebound. Skye doubled their advantage on 24 minutes with a similarly scrappy goal and this time it was Iain MacLellan who forced the ball over the line to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Skye had played with the wind at their backs in the first half but ‘Shiel used it to their advantage in the second period. Aedan MacRae had a shot saved with his feet by Jamie Gannon in what was the home side’s first real threat on goal. Skye manager Donnie Martin replaced Iain MacLellan with Stephen Murchison and U17 player Murchison gave a good account of himself. Aedan MacRae saw a snap-shot well saved by Jamie Gannon as Kinlochshiel looked to get back in the game. Ally MacDonald passed up a good chance to increase Skye’s lead late in the game. Neither side really took control of the game and a scrappy affair ended with the points going to the Islanders thanks to their early goals. Scott MacLean at full centre stood out for ‘Shiel whilst U17 forward Andrew Grant turned in an impressive display for the visitors. Skye’s Stewart Grant also deserves a mention for another impressive performance and he has probably been the Islanders best player so far this season. The win leaves Skye second in the table, a point behind leaders Lovat.
