Kingussie High School Make it Four-in-a-Row At Great Glen Shinty Sixes | |
19 September 2014 Kingussie High School successfully defended the Shinty Shop Great Glen Schools Shinty Sixes at Blairbeg Park, Drumnadrochit on Wednesday 17September 2014. The Kingussie youngsters also made history by making it four successive wins in the competition. A total of nine teams from across the Highlands took part in this U16 event. Portree, Glenurquhart, Kingussie and Lochaber all won through to the semi-finals following the group stages. In the semi-finals, Kingussie defeated Glenurquhart 1β0 whilst Lochaber edged out Portree 2-1. In a close and exciting final, Kingussie High School beat Lochaber High School 1-0 thanks to a first half goal from Newtonmore second team player Iain Robinson. There was further joy for Kingussie High School when Kingussie second team defender Callum Grant was awarded player of the tournament. Hosts Glenurquhart High School claimed third spot, defeating Portree High School 3-0. Event organiser, Allan MacLeod said; βIt is encouraging to see so many schools from across the north of Scotland coming together to take part in this event which is now in its nineteenth year.
