Kingussie, GMA, Edinburgh Uni & Broncos All Win At 2014 Inverness Sixes | |
04 August 2014 A total 28 teams, including 224 players, contested three competitions at the 2014 Annual Inverness Sixes which took place at Bught Park, Inverness on Sunday 27 July 2014.
U14 Ken Ross Trophy The U14 Ken Ross Trophy for players aged U14 on the 1 July 2014 started at 9.30am and was contested between five teams – Inverness, Kingussie, Lovat, Newtonmore and Oban Celtic who were competing for the first time. Kingussie and Oban Celtic each lost only once in the round-robin section. Kings beat Inverness 2-0, Lovat 3-0 and Newtonmore 1-0 before losing 1-0 to Oban Celtic. The Oban side beat Inverness 1-0, Lovat 1-0 and Kingussie 1-0 but they suffered a 1-0 reverse to Newtonmore. Kingussie retained the trophy though as they came out on top in the final, beating Oban Celtic 3-0. However there was some consolation for Oban Celtic as Scott Mossman was named the Murdo MacLean Player of the Tournament.
Alistair Gow Shield Ten teams took part in the Alistair Gow Shield Women’s Competition which started at 11am. Glengarry Ladies won last year’s event and Skye Camanachd Ladies were present for the first time, entering two teams. Skye Camanachd finished second in their league section but lost 2-1 in the semi-finals to a Badenoch & Strathspey side who had topped their group with three wins and a draw. The final brought together Badenoch & Strathspey and Glasgow Mid Argyll. The sides shared the points in the league section following a goalless draw and the final was an equally close affair. However GMA did enough to secure a 3-2 to lift the trophy. GMA’s Rachel McCafferty was named Murdo MacLean Player of the Tournament.
Jubilee Shield The senior Jubilee Shield stared at 12.30pm with thirteen teams taking part. As part of their Scotland tour, both CSM (Camborne School of Mines) and English Shinty Association put forward teams in the Jubilee Shield and Alistair Gow Shield whilst Aberdour, Caithness, Inverness-Shire, Loch Ness and The Broncos were all new entrants in the Jubilee Shield. The Broncos beat Caberfeidh 1-0 in the Jubilee Shield Final. The Cabers side featured former player Kevin Bartlett in goal and Lovat’s Greg Matheson in attack. Bronco’s keeper Kyle MacDonald was named the Murdo MacLean Player of the Tournament )
Rosedean Shield The Rosedean Shield for early exit teams saw Edinburgh University beat Inverness-shire 1-0.
