Kingussie 6 Skye Camanachd 1 | |
31 May 2013 The Skye Camanachd second team lost 6-1 to Kingussie in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 meeting at the Dell on Saturday 25 May 2013. Skye were 3-1 winners when the sides met at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree earlier in the season and they went into the match top of the table, ahead of second place Lovat on goal difference. Kingussie on the other hand propped up the table but manager Michael Falconer had a squad with a mixture of youth and experience at his disposal. Michael Clark was in goal, Ronald Ross started in defence with John Gibson in midfield and Kevin Thain in in attack. Youngster Rory MacKeachan returned after injury and there was also a place for teenage striker Savio Genini. Skye Camanachd manager Murdo Morrison had forward Ally MacDonald and defender Neil John Campbell back from the squad which beat Aberdeen University the previous weekend. Midfielder Magnus Burd also returned but Paul MacKinnon and Iain MacLellan missed out through injury. Iain Munro continued in goal with Jamie Gannon still unavailable. Jordan Murchison started in attack as the Islanders had no first team game and Murchison hadn’t played since being red carded against Inverness a fortnight earlier so the match gave him some important game time ahead of the forth-coming Scottish Camanachd Cup tie against Kinlochshiel in Portree. Kingussie’s opener came when Kevin Thain chased a ball which seemed to be going out of play. However Thain stretched to win possession and flicked the ball into the path of Chris Hollysong who put the home side 1-0 in front. Skye levelled when a fine Jordan Murchison shot from distance beat keeper Michael Clark to make it 1-1. Kingussie regained the lead when a rocket shot from Kevin Thain flew into the Skye net, giving keeper Iain Munro no chance. Munro was also helpless as Savio Genini added two more goals and another blistering drive from Kevin Thain left Skye trailing 5-1 at half time. Skye performed better in the second period although Kevin Thain did go on to complete his hat-trick. Skye had a chance to pull a goal back late in the game when Jordan Murchison was brought down inside the D and referee Archie Ritchie pointed to the penalty spot. Murchison stepped up to take the penalty himself but his effort went just the wrong side of the post. Kingussie deserved the win which lifts them off the bottom of the table and Chris Hollysong particularly caught the eye. This was a disappointing performance from the Islanders who drop into second place in the league on goal difference. However they have the ideal chance to bounce back this weekend when they face leaders at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree.
