04 July 2014 Kilmallie U17 won the 2014 MacRae & Dick Strathdearn Sixes at the Bught Park, Inverness on Wednesday 2 July 2014. Skye Camanachd were one of eleven clubs taking part and the sides were split into two leagues for this 6pm start. Lochbroom and Strathglass were late call-offs. The Blue League included Ballachulish, Caberfeidh, Fort William, Kingussie, Kinlochshiel and Lochcarron. 2013 winners Fort William came out on top in the Blue League with three wins and two draws whilst Kingussie finished in second place, just a point behind. The Red League consisted of Beauly, Kilmallie, Lochaber, Newtonmore and Skye Camanachd. Skye Camanachd U17 Youth Coach Davie Pringle was without the services of Will Cowie and Kyle Pirie. The Islanders lost 1-0 to both Lochaber and Kilmallie and had goalless draws with Beauly and Newtonmore. They finished on two points along with Beauly and Newtonmore. Lochaber won the Red League, beating second place Kilmallie 3-0 along the way. In the semi-finals, it took a penalty shoot-out to separate local rivals Kilmallie and Fort William with Kilmallie keeper Shane Gilles making the crucial penalty save. Kingussie beat Lochaber 2-0 in the other semi-final with Savio Genini and James Falconer getting the goals. The final between Kilmallie and Kingussie was a close affair and Kilmallie’s Craig MacIsaac getting the only goal of the game to give his side a 1-0 victory. Kingussie’s James Falconer was named Player of the Tournament. The referees were Evan MacRae, Calum Girvan, Andy MacLean and John Matheson. |
