John MacKinnon Memorial Shinty Sixes Squad Line-Ups – Golden Oldies | |
27 December 2013 The team line-ups are now being announced for the John MacKinnon Memorial Shinty Sixes which take place at the Portree High School all-weather pitch on Saturday 28 December 2013. The Kingussie veterans The OLD Boys of the Dell may have the highest number of Camanachd Cup winners medals but John “Slippy” Finlayson’s Golden Olden side is in definitely in second place. Former Skye Camanachd first team manager and former Scotland U21 player Angie Murchison will be in goal whilst Skye’s Camanachd Cup winning captain Caley MacLean is joined by 1990 team mates Ewen “Crossal” MacKinnon, Peter Gordon, Willie Cowie, as well as Finlayson himself. Youth players Will Cowie and John Gillies are included as is ladies player Abby MacLean. Golden Oldies – John “Slippy” Finlayson, Angie Murchison (over45), Caley MacLean, Ewen “Crossal” MacKinnon, Peter Gordon, Willie Cowie, John Gillies, Will Cowie (U17), Abby MacLean (ladies) Event Details The John MacKinnon Memorial Sixes is an invitational tournament and the competing teams should be at the Portree High School all-weather pitch for registration at 9.30am with the first matches throwing up at 10am The competing teams will be mainly from Skye but there will also be sides from Kinlochshiel, Lewis, Lochcarron, a veterans Kingussie side and a team from Lovat’s Gallacher family. It is looking at this stage as if there will be fourteen teams in total taking part. Each squad will have a maximum of eight players and must include an over 45 player, an U17 player and a ladies player in their squad. There will be a trophy for the winners, medals for the winners and runners up, as well as awards for the Player of the Tournament, Ladies Player of the Tournament, Over 45 Player of the Tournament and U17 Player of the Tournament. The John MacKinnon Memorial Shinty Sixes will be jointly sponsored by DA MacLennan, Kyleakin and Highland Industrial Supplies, Inverness with the shinty balls provided courtesy of the Shinty Shop.
