Jimmy Nicolson, Portree | |
10 May 2015 Everyone at Skye Camanachd was saddened to hear of the passing this week of Jimmy Nicolson, Portree. Jimmy was a well-known figure throughout Skye, especially from his time driving the Royal Bank of Scotland mobile bank. He had a great interest in Skye Camanachd and his son-in-laws Calum Murchison and Stuart Jackson were both players and managers of the club. Jimmy’s grandson Iain Nicolson currently plays for the Skye first team as does his great-grandson Jordan Murchison. When Skye Camanachd built their new Clubhouse and the new pitch was opened, they ran a competition to name the new ground. Jimmy’s entry was “Pairc nan Laoch” (English translation - Field of Heroes) and it was selected as the winning entry. Jimmy Nicolson’s funeral will take place at the Church of Scotland, Portree on Wednesday 13 May 2015 at 11am with the internment at Portree Cemetery thereafter. It was Jimmy’s request that the collection from his funeral be donated to Skye Camanachd. The condolences from everyone at the club go to Jimmy’s widow Mary and the extended family.
