Jimmy Devlin, Drumuie | |
06 January 2023 Everyone at Skye Camanachd was sorry to hear of the passing of our former Chieftain, Jimmy Devlin, Drumuie, By Portree on Thursday 5 January 2023. Jimmy passed away peacefully at Broadford Hospital. As many know, Jimmy was a long-term supporter of the club, and provided after-match meals from his premises in Bayfield through the 1970s and early 1980s. These were hard times financially for Skye Camanachd and Jimmy regularly went long periods without payment and provided many meals free of charge. His contribution was recognised when he was made a Skye Camanachd Vice-President and then went on to complete a 3-year tenure as Club Chieftain between 2006 and 2008. Jimmy regularly attended at Skye Camanachd games and was a loyal supporter of the club. Even when ill-health prevented him from being at Pairc nan Laoch, he followed the club’s fortunes by tuning into the match commentary on local radio station Radio Skye. Jimmy also had an affection for Lovat Shinty Club although we are sure he cheered on Skye Camanachd when the two sides met! His son John (Charlie) is a former Skye Camanachd player who also served a period as second team manager. Jimmy was aged 93 and his funeral details will be confirmed in due course. The sympathies from everyone at the club go out to Jimmy’s wife Dolina and the family. |
