Ireland Name 2015 Shinty / Hurling Squad | |
14 October 2015 Ireland co-managers Jeffrey Lynskey and Gregory O'Kane have named their squad for the Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling internationals against Scotland at the Bught Park on Saturday 24 October 2015 and at Croke Park four weeks later. Co-managers Jeffrey Lynskey and Gregory O'Kane step up into the job after looking after the U21s and they also have the experience of assisting previous boss Michael Walshe. They have named an 18 player panel and have retained ten players from last year’s squad. The players kept on from 2014 are keepers Eoin Kelly and Paul Dermody, defenders Michael Burke, Brian Murphy, Eoin Price, Matthew Whelan and Clare All-Ireland winner David McInerney as well as midfielder Paul Divilly, Kerry forward Shane Nolan and Antrim’s Neal McAuley . There new cap for Galway’s Shane Moloney, the 22 year old who made a spectacular debut in the 2015 All-Ireland semi-final against Tipperary when he grabbed the injury-time point that sealed Tipp’s place in the All-Ireland final. Waterford forward Maurice Shanahan is another interesting selection. He made his championship debut in 2009 and immediately became a regular in the Waterford side. His brother is Waterford’s legendary forward Dan Shanahan. James Toher steps up from last year’s Ireland U21 side and there are recalls for Gareth Johnston and Derek McNicholas who both played for the seniors in the 2013 Shinty / Hurling international series. Meath captain Damien Healy, 26 year old Kildare corner back Niall Ó Muineachain and his American-born club-mate Bernard Deay make up the remainder of the squad. The nine players replaced from the 19-man 2014 panel are Cork duo Patrick Horgan and Conor Lehane, Patrick Maher from Tipperary, Kerry pair Darragh O’Connell and John Egan as well as David English (Carlow), Conor McCann (Antrim), Jonny McCusker (Down) and David Kettle (Louth).
