Inverness 1 Skye Camanachd 3 | |
05 October 2015 The Skye Camanachd second team clinched the Marine Harvest North Division 2 title thanks to a 3-1 win over the Inverness second team at the Bught Park on Saturday 3 October 2015. Skye Camanachd second team manager Davie Pringle was at a wedding so first team manager John MacLeod and his assistant Douglas MacDougall looked after the side. There were three changes to the sixteen man squad which beat Glengarry in their last match a fortnight earlier. Stewart Grant has moved abroad whilst Ross Nicolson and Kenny MacLeod were unavailable. Chris MacLennan and John MacKenzie were added to make up a 15 player pool. Keeper Jamie Gannon was still missing so North U17 goalie Ryan Morrison continued between the sticks. Inverness included first team keeper Adam MacMaster, Liam Girvan and Charlie MacDonald but the rest of their second string was along usual lines for this 2.30pm throw up. Skye knew that they needed just one more point to clinch the Marine Harvest North Division 2 title but it was Inverness who troubled the visiting defence when Stuart MacRae shot over after 2 minutes. Skye responded and James Pringle shot into the side netting a minute later. Skye had the chance to take the lead on 7 minutes when referee Andy MacLean judged that goalie Adam MacMaster had kicked the ball and he pointed to the penalty spot. However John Gillies sent the penalty well over the top of the bar. Skye goalie Ryan Morrison saved well on 17 minutes. Skye forward John MacKenzie had to leave the field on 20 minutes when he caught his studs on the turf and twisted his knee. Angie MacDonald came on in his place MacDonald was only on the field a matter of minutes when he fired Skye into the lead with a crisp, low drive into the bottom of the net to make it 1-0. The Skye forwards combined well on 28 minutes culminating John Gillies shooting into the side netting. James Pringle had a shot well saved by Adam MacMaster on 34 minutes and the Highland Capital side custodian denied Pringle again on the 40 minutes. Skye made the perfect start to the second half, doubling their advantage within a minute of the restart. And it was Angie MacDonald who found the back of the net when he created a bit of space for himself before sending a waist-high shot home from 20 yards. Angie MacDonald shot wide on 65 minutes and a John Gillies strike was well saved by MacMaster a couple of minutes later. MacMaster then foiled James Pringle on 68 minutes and Iain MacLellan spurned an opportunity when his shot rose over the top on 76 minutes. For all Skye’s pressure, it was Inverness who would pull a goal back on 77 minutes. Referee Andy MacLean ruled that Skye keeper Ryan Morrison had kicked the ball and Stuart MacRae dispatched the resultant spot-hit to make it 2-1. Skye made a change a minute later as Calum Gibb replaced Iain MacLellan at wing centre. A John Angus MacInnes effort went over the bar on 79 minutes. Skye immediately made their final substitution with Daniel Morrison replacing James Pringle and Adam MacMaster saved from Morrison within a minute of him entering the field. Skye continued to press for the third goal and Angie MacDonald shot over on 84 minutes and just a minute later, some great lead up play from Daniel Morrison ended when he unselfishly squared the ball to Angie MacDonald but his hit went past the post. Skye sealed the points on 85 minutes. John Angus MacInnes found time and space out on the right hand side of the park and he stuck a 40 yard shot which sailed over the inverness keeper to put Skye 3-1 to the good. The Islanders almost added a fourth in the dying minutes when a great solo run from John Gillies was thwarted by keeper MacMaster and Skye had to settle for the 3-1 win. The Skye defence were solid throughout whilst midfield duo David MacInnes and Thomas Wilson worked tirelessly for the whole 90 minutes. Forwards John Angus MacInnes and John Gillies were excellent and Angie MacDonald supplied the finishing touches as he has already done in previous weeks. The Skye seconds will be presented with the Marine Harvest North Division 2 following their final match of the season this weekend when Boleskine visit Pairc nan Laoch, Portree.
