29 June 2015 Inveraray U17 lifted the 2015 MacQuiston Cup after they beat Kyles Athletic U17 4-3 in the final at Strachurmore on Sunday 28 June 2015. Inveraray U17 beat Glasgow Mid Argyll U17 9-0 in their quarter-final tie. Ruairidh Graham was their top scorer with a hat-trick. Lewis Montgomery and Fraser Watt bagged a brace each with Hamish MacLennan and Kieron Chrystal also on target. They then edged into the final with a 1-0 semi-final victory over Oban Camanachd U17. Kieron Chrystal’s goal made the difference. Kyles Athletic U17 received a bye at the quarter-final stage. They followed that up with a 6-0 win over Aberdour U17 in the semi-final stage. Scott MacVicar scored four times and Kyle Macmartin got the other two. Throw up was put back to 2pm to allow the Strachurmore ground-staff sufficient time to drain the pitch after the heavy rain from the previous night and they did a good job. Inveraray struck first and Lewis Montgomery put them 1-0 ahead after just 4 minutes and the same player added a second to make it 2-0. Kyle Macmartin pulled a goal back with a great shot which beat Inveraray keeper Scott MacLachlan to make it 2-1 Crucially, Kyles added two more goals just before the break with Campbell Watt and his brother Fraser Watt both on target to give their side a 4-1 half time lead. The players were finding it difficult on the heavy surface and Kyles started to get on top as the match reached the final stages. However 13 year old Scott MacVicar reduced the deficit to make it 4-2 on 69 minutes. With just 4 minutes remaining, a second goal from Kyle Macmartin made it 4-3. Kyle Macmartin came close to a dramatic leveller but Inveraray saw out the remainder of the match and referee Lachie Wood’s final whistle meant they who took the honours. Inveraray captain Lewis Montgomery was presented with the MacQuiston Cup by Camanachd Association Chieftain Jock Turner. Both sets of players enjoyed an after-match meal in the Creggans Inn. |
