Ian MacFarlane. Portree | |
22 November 2018 It was with great sadness that everyone at Skye Camanachd learnt of the passing of Ian MacFarlane. Ian MacFarlane and his late brother Neil MacFarlane were long-term main sponsors of Skye Camanachd whilst proprietors of Portree Building & Construction Services (PBCS). PBCS was one of Skye’s largest employers and their association with Skye Camanachd started in the 1980s and continued through the 1990s, including when the club won the Camanachd Cup in June 1990. Iain and Neil provided the club with a mini-bus for travel to away matches and they were always on had to help out with the purchase of equipment or to sponsor club many club events including our Centenary Year in 1992. They were also proprietors Portree Hotel, providing after-match meals for visiting teams for a number of years. Both Ian MacFarlane and Neil MacFarlane were long-standing Skye Camanachd Vice-Presidents, an honorary position which reflects a person’s significant contribution to Skye Camanachd over the years. Their sponsorship and goodwill to the community stretched well beyond Skye Camanachd, with many community groups benefiting from their generosity. Ian MacFarlane’s funeral takes place at the Church of Scotland, Portree at noon on Saturday 24 November 2018 with the interment thereafter at Portree Cemetery. The sympathies from everyone at Skye Camanachd go out to Flora and the extended family. |
