Ian MacDougall Is New Skye Camanachd Chieftain | |
20 January 2018 Ian MacDougall is the new Skye Camanachd Chieftain. He was unanimously elected at the Skye Camanachd Annual General Meeting which took place at the Skye Camanachd Clubhouse on Saturday 20 January 2018 and he assumes the post for a three year period. Ian MacDougall has had a long career with Skye Camanachd in which he was recognised as a no-nonsense defender. He carried out his National Service with the Black Watch in Cyprus during the early 1960s. Two of his great uncles are remembered on the Portree War Memorial, haven fallen at Festubert and the Somme. On his return to Skye, and with Skye Camanachd in abeyance during the latter half of the 1960s, Ian played shinty for neighbours Lochcarron. When Skye Camanachd returned to competitive action in 1969, Ian pulled on the Skye shirt and was a key player until he retired in 1979. Ian has maintained a keen interest in Skye Camanachd ever since and is a current Vice President of the club. Ian MacDougall takes over the Chieftain’s role from former player and Chairman Kenny MacKay whose three year tenure had just ended. |
