Hopeman Community Win Press & Journal Mini-Bus | |
09 October 2015 The Hopeman community is celebrating this week after winning the Press & Journal mini-bus competition. The Hopeman community, situated on the on the Moray seaside, was founded in 1805 to house and re-employ people who were evicted from their homes at the time of the Highland Clearances. They were the lucky group drawn from 3,400 entrants by Press & Journal editor Damian Bates to win the bus which was donated by North Sea firm Nexen Petroleoum. As well as thanking sponsors Nexen, Bates said, “The response was fantastic and we would have loved to have been able to give a mini bus to every group who entered because they are all doing such fantastic work in their communities.” Hopeman were amongst 210 groups, including Skye Camanachd, who collected tokens for a chance to win the 17-seater Ford Transit. Each entry required 50 tokens and Hopeman collected enough tokens to make 80 entries. Skye Camanachd collected enough tokens to make 60 entries which was a fantastic achievement and our thanks go out to everyone who contributed. We might not have won but it was definitely worth taking part. |
