Primary 7 (& under) National First Shinty Finals The Primary 7 (& under) National First Shinty Finals took place at the Nevis Centre with the eleven teams split into two groups. 2019 winners Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Phort Righ topped Section A with Dalneigh finishing second, two points behind. Inverlochy won all five of their Section B games with Taynuilt edging out Newtonmore on goal-difference to clinch second spot Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Phort Righ raced into a two-goal lead against Taynuilt in the first semi-final. Taynuilt pulled a goal back before the Islanders scored a late goal to run out 3-1 winners, booking their place in the final. The second semi-final saw a dominant Inverlochy finish 5-1 winners against Dalneigh to set-up an intriguing final. Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Phort Righ took a 2-0 lead in the final and they stayed in front until 3 minutes from time when Diezel MacLean pulled a goal back. Then, with only 6 seconds of the final remaining, James Clark scored a dramatic equaliser to take the final into golden goal extra-time. The winning goal had a large slice of luck about it as, with Portree trying to clear their lines, the ball deflected off Diezel MacLean’s body and the ball ended up in the net to give Inverlochy the trophy. Ali Ferguson of tournament sponsors Ferguson Transport & Shipping presented the trophy and medals to the players and coaches.
Primary 5 (& under) National First Shinty Finals The Primary 5 (& under) National First Shinty Finals were played at Lochaber High School. Kyles and Caol won their sections to qualify for the final Auchteryre were runners-up to Kyles in Section A whilst Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Phort Righ finished second, behind Caol, in Section B. Due to the incoming Storm Jorge, and parental concern regarding travel in challenging conditions, it was decided prior the Festival that the semi-finals would be withdrawn. This was appreciated by the parents and supporters travelling south. The final between Kyles and Caol was a classic and will live long in the memory. There were chances at both ends but Caol Primary scored in the last few seconds to win 6-5. The winners and runners up were presented their medals, on behalf of Ferguson Transport & Shipping, by Grade 1 referee Graham Cameron who volunteered his time to assist at the Festival. |
