Good Away Win For Skye - Glengarry 2 Skye Camanachd 3 - UPDATED! | |
14 April 2013 The Skye Camanachd second team were back on the road and they returned from Craigard with both points following a 3-2 Marine Harvest North Division 2 win over Glengarry on Saturday 13 April 2013. Ally MacDonald travelled with the Skye reserves whilst Neil John Campbell returned in defence. Ally “Burgers” MacLeod and Daniel Morrison were also back in the squad and both started on the bench. However the Islanders were without DJ Gilpin who has been in great form of late and Kenny Campbell joined the first team squad. Chris MacLennan was injured and Andrew Banks was another absentee. Skye took the lead on 16 minutes. John Angus MacInnes was credited with the goal although Angie MacDonald may have taken the slightest touch before the ball entered the net and this seemed to wrong-foot the ‘Garry keeper. Glengarry drew level on the half hour mark when Steven Cameron stabbed the ball home. A goalmouth scramble had ensued following a ‘Garry corner and Cameron got the vital touch to prod the ball over the line from just a yard out. Skye replaced Ally “Cloudy” MacLeod with Daniel Morrison at half time with Magnus Burd dropping back into defence. Skye lost Iain MacLellan with a knee knock and he was replaced by Ally “Burgers” MacLeod. There was no further scoring until 15 minutes from time when Angie MacDonald fired a backhand drive into the home net to put Skye 2-1 in front. Skye keeper Jamie Gannon stretched to make a fantastic save with his foot which kept Skye in the lead. Glengarry pushed buckshee back Daniel MacLennan into attack for the closing stages of the game and he looked to have rescued a point for the home side when he made it 2-2 with a blistering drive from around the penalty spot on 82 minutes. Skye were not to be denied though and within seconds of the restart, Angie MacDonald was on target again as he collected a pass from John Angus MacInnes before shooting home to make it 3-2. A knock to Skye forward Ally MacDonald saw John MacKenzie come on late in the game but Skye held on for the win. Daniel MacLennan was excellent throughout for Glengarry and he is a player who could easily hold his own at the highest level of the game. The Islanders showed plenty character to come out on top in this one and John Angus MacInnes was outstanding, especially in the second half. Next up for Skye is a trip to Kirkton for a derby clash with Kinlochshiel.
