Glenurquhart 5 Skye Camanachd 1 | |
20 February 2017 Glenurquhart beat Skye Camanachd 5-1 in their pre-season friendly at Blairbeg on Saturday 18 February 2017. Glenurquhart were still without injured keeper Stuart MacKintosh for this 2pm throw up so Garry MacKintosh took over in goal. John Barr and Andrew Corrigan both played but David MacLennan was also missing. Skye travelled without Neil MacVicar, Kenny Campbell and Shockie MacLennan whilst Steven Morrison was a late call-off with a chest infection. John Gillies started at full back whilst DJ Gilpin was given a first team debut in defence. Youngster Ruaraidh MacLeod was a late addition to the squad following his five goals for the Skye reserves against Lochcarron the previous weekend whilst David MacInnes was also called up. Glenurquhart took an early lead with Neale Reid putting them in front on 12 minutes. Fraser Heath was the provider and Reid made no mistake to score for the third successive game. Daniel MacKintosh added a second on 26 minutes when he gathered the ball in space to score. Glenurquhart replaced Connor Golabek with James MacPherson around the half hour mark. Skye’s Danny Morrison pulled a goal back on 38 minutes. Jordan Murchison strode forward with the ball, beating a couple of players on his way, before slipping a pass to Danny Morrison and he scooped the ball out from under his feet, past Garry MacKintosh who was unable to keep the ball out of the net. It remained 2-1 at the break. Skye created a number of chances in the last half hour of the game but it was the Glen who went on to add three more goals in the final 25 minutes. Fraser Heath made it 3-1 on 65 minutes. James MacPherson dropped back to wing centre to take possession and he found fellow substitute Billy Urquhart who played a perfectly weighted pass to Heath who tucked the ball home. Callum Smith turned to crash home a bouncing ball to make it 4-1 on 72 minutes. With just 5 minutes remaining, James MacPherson again came deep to gather the ball ahead of his marker. MacPherson pushed it wide before smashing a powerful 35 yard shot into the net to make it 5-1. However Skye had also chances during the closing period including twice hitting the frame of the goal. Danny Morrison put Jordan Murchison through and his backhand strike from the edge of the D crashed off the underside of the crossbar before hitting keeper MacKintosh on the back and going out for a corner. Skye substitute Ruaraidh MacLeod made an immediate impact; hitting the post shortly after coming on. Glenurquhart will point to two magnificent saves from Skye goalie Iain MacLeod earlier in the game; both denying James MacPherson. Andrew Corrigan was excellent for Glenurquhart who face neighbours Strathglass at Blairbeg for the MacDonald whilst Skye are off to the Dell to play Kingussie.
