Glenurquhart 3 Skye Camanachd 4 | |
19 March 2023 The Skye Camanachd second team’s Mowi North Division 1 match with the Glenurquhart second team on Saturday 18 March 2023 was called off on Friday afternoon when Skye’s Pairc nan Laoch pitch failed an inspection. However, the teams agreed to switch the venue to Blairbeg with an 11am throw up and it was the Islanders who won by the odd goal in seven. In an unusual twist, all scorers for both sides were “MacLeods” as was the referee; Donald “Donjee” MacLeod. Skye broke the deadlock with Ruaraidh MacLeod netting on 16 minutes and he added a second on 32 minutes. The Glen pulled a goal back a minute before half-time with Charlie MacLeod beating visiting goalie Calum Nicolson. There was a scoring burst at the start of the second half as Seonaidh-Alex MacLeod extended Skye’s lead on 47 minutes but Alfie MacLeod made it 3-2 on 49 minutes. Ruaraidh MacLeod completed his hat-trick to make it 4-2 just a couple of minutes after and although Glenurquhart’s Alfie MacLeod scored his second on 85 minutes it was Skye who secured their second win of the season. This was a much improved Skye showing compared to the previous week’s defeat at Glengarry. It was a strong performance, especially from the centre line, with plenty of desire throughout the team. The loss of three goals will be disappointing but manager Willie MacDonald was delighted to collect two valuable points away from home.
