Glenurquhart 0 Skye Camanachd 1 | |
13 February 2022 James Pringle scored around 20 minutes from time to give the Skye Camanachd first team a 1-0 victory over Glenurquhart in their opening pre-season friendly of year at Blairbeg on Saturday 12 February 2022. Skye keeper Ryan Morrison is moving abroad so Murphy Henderson debuted in goal whilst Danny Morrison returned to the squad after a long absence. Will Cowie was also back for this 2pm throw up after recovering from a knee injury sustained against Kinlochshiel in the opening day of last season. James Morrison was a late call off with a slight back injury. This was a first outing for new Glenurquhart first team manager Dave Stewart who was missing Michael Fraser. Stuart MacKintosh was the busier of the two keepers in the first half, making three or four super saves. Skye lost forward Taylor Matheson midway through the first half with a finger injury and he was replaced by Somhairle MacDonald. Skye thought they had taken the lead when Jordan Murchison was fouled but managed to get away from his marker. Murchison got a shot away, beating the keeper from a tight angle but referee Martin MacLean brought play back for a Skye free-hit. The pitch was soft and began to cut up badly as the game went on. Lachie Smith was excellent at full back for the Glen and he had a great tussle with Skye full forward James Pringle but it was Pringle who would have the final say. The goal that separated the sides came with around 20 minutes remaining. Jordan Murchison’s shot from around the penalty spot was parried with his stick by Stuart MacKintosh and the ball rebounded to the right where James Pringle got to it first at the edge of the D and he slammed that ball into the net off the underside of the crossbar. The full Skye squad got a good run out and Taylor Matheson’s hand injury isn’t as bad as first feared so he should be fit for the start of the new season.
