Gillie’s Tour De Skye Cycle Challenge – UPDATE! | |
23 August 2022 Skye shinty referee John Angus Gillies is going through his final preparations ahead of his 140 mile cycle on Skye on Thursday 25 August 2022. The cycle is to raise funds to help provide a multi-purpose Community Church for the Portree & Bracadale Congregation. The rising cost of materials since the pandemic has left a £400,000 funding gap to complete of the project. Building work commenced in April 2022 on the appropriately named “Shepherds Way” site in Portree. John Angus said: “I would value any support from you and if you want to come for a short cycle on the day, you are more than welcome.” John Angus sets off at 6am on Thursday 25 August 2022 from the site of the new building on Shepherd’s Way, Portree to embark on a cycle to Kyleakin and back, a total of around 70 miles. Not happy with “just” the 70 miles though, when Gillie reaches Portree he is going to turn around and do the whole thing again, totalling around 140 miles in the saddle in the height of the Skye summer on what will be busy roads. So far, the magnificent sum of £7,225 has been raised through a JustGiving page and other donations. John Angus added that he was “humbled” by the support. There is still time to donate and you can do so at the JustGiving page by clicking here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/new-church-portree?utm_source=Sharethis&utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=new-church-portree&utm_campaign=pfp-email&utm_term=4eb6596d4e6748f3b346e35e74d56f88. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, your money will be sent directly to Portree & Bracadale Free Church of Scotland, so it's the most efficient way to give - saving time and cutting costs for the charity. |
