Four Goal Spree For Angie MacDonald – Skye Camanachd 8 Fort William 1 - UPDATED! | |
11 May 2013 Angie MacDonald scored four times as Skye Camanachd beat Fort William 8-1 in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 meeting at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 11 May 2013. Skye first team manager Willie MacRae took charge of the team as work commitments prevented him from travelling to Inverness with the senior side and second team manager Murdo Morrison was also working. Skye were without influential pair Stewart Grant and Paul MacKinnon as both had earned first team call ups. However Alan Palmer was available and Kenny MacLeod played after missing the last few first team games. Veteran defender Allan MacLeod was also back in the squad for his first appearance of the season and he started in defence. Chris Rose took up a place on the bench after missing most of the season with a finger injury. Fort William travelled with a very young squad with several of their players playing in the club’s U17 side. It was the visitors who struck first as Alexander Cameron fired past Jamie Gannon after 5 minutes to shock the home side. However they didn’t stay in front for long as Skye’s Alan Palmer squared the game on 10 minutes. Skye’s Chris Rose made an earlier than expected appearance when Kenny MacLeod had to be withdrawn for treatment after being accidently hit on the head by team-mate Iain MacLellan on 14 minutes. Skye went in front for the first time in the match when referee Rab MacAskill awarded the Islanders a penalty 5 minutes before the break. Angie MacDonald stepped up and his spot-hit just beat the Fort keeper as the ball squirmed between his feet into the net to give the home side a 2-1 interval advantage. The second half belonged to Skye though and Ally MacDonald got on the scoresheet on 53 minutes to stretch the home team’s advantage. Angie MacDonald struck on 55 and 62 minutes to complete his hat-trick and give Skye a 5-1 lead. Alan Palmer got his second of the afternoon to make it 6-1 on 65 minutes. John Angus MacInnes has been in great form for Skye of late and he made it 7-1 on 77 minutes. Fort William’s Cal Brown required lengthy treatment after receiving an accidental blow to the head on 84 minutes. He was treated by Skye medic Helen Gilpin and an ambulance was called and he required 10 stiches to his wound before being released from hospital to make the journey home. Angie MacDonald completed a fine afternoon’s work as he took his tally to four goals with a rasping shot which was the goal of the game just 4 minutes from time to round off an impressive 8-1 victory. The win takes the Skye reserves to the top of the table, ahead of Lovat on goal difference, and sets the Islanders up nicely for Saturday’s trip to Balgownie to play Aberdeen University in the Strathdearn Cup.
