Fort William 3 Skye Camanachd 3 | |
09 April 2023 The Skye Camanachd colts came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with Fort William colts in their Mowi North Division 1 match at An Aird on Saturday 8 April 2023. Fort William were without the suspended Rhys Kennedy for this 2.30pm throw up following his red card against Lochside Rovers the previous week. Skye travelled without several regulars, including Taylor Matheson who has returned to seas, so veteran Kenny Campbell came out of retirement to help out. Ian MacPherson was working whilst Ruaraidh MacLeod and Archie MacDonald were on first team duty. There was a place on the bench for youngster Jamie Ross. Skye had most of the first half but, with home keeper Paul Mackay and full back Arran Stephen both excellent at the back, Fort William took the few chances they created up front and led 2-0 at the turnaround. Euan Campbell opened the scoring on 25 minutes and a David MacInnes own goal, which came when the full back went to deal with a low ball from the right with both feet. However, the ball spun off his instep and looped by keeper Calum Nicolson’s outstretched stick, to double the Fort’s advantage on 39 minutes. Skye’s Iain MacInnes pulled a goal back on 51 minutes but when referee James Munro awarded the home side a penalty on 67 minutes, Euan Campbell stepped up to score his second goal of the game. However, Skye salvaged a point through Raghnall Robertson’s double on 72 and 85 minutes and Archie Millar almost won it for the Islanders near the end. Skye boss Willie MacDonald said: “We dominated the first half but couldn’t get the ball over the line. We had a lot of the ball in the second half too and won that 3-1 so it was great to get the draw, but we were also disappointed not to win it.” Fort William from: Paul MacKay: Arran Stephen, Ryan Cairns, Cameron Grant, Owen O’Hagan, Struan Stephen, Robert MacMillan, Cameron Burns, James Clark, Alfie Duncan, Marc Kelly, Euan Campbell: subs Archie MacKinnon, John MacLeod Skye Camanachd from: Calum Nicolson: David MacInnes (captain), Cameron MacKay, William James Sutherland, Raghnall Robertson: Charlie Latton, Seonaidh-Alex MacLeod, Nui Nicolson: Archie Millar, Ian MacInnes, Alasdair Stewart, Kenny Campbell: subs James Robertson, Jamie Ross Match Referee – James Munro |
