Flora MacLean, Torvaig | |
23 January 2018 There was much sadness at Skye Camanachd when we learnt of the passing of Flora MacLean, Torvaig on Friday 19 January 2018. Flora was a much loved and hugely respected member of Skye Camanachd. Whether watching games in Portree at her favoured spot on the touchline, travelling to cheer on the team at away matches or contributing to numerous fund raising events, Flora could always be relied on for her support. Her role behind the scenes was never more evident than at the club’s annual sale of work events where her organisation skills were crucial and her baking contribution was always a popular attraction. Flora’s Torvaig home was always welcoming and Skye Camanachd was just one of many charities which benefited from her generosity. Her contribution was recognised and Flora was a Skye Camanachd Vice President of many years’ standing and she was proud to start her 3 year term as Club Chieftain in 2009. Flora’s late husband Ewen MacLean played for the club whilst her eldest son Caley was captain when Skye Camanachd won the Camanachd Cup in 1990. Other sons Ewen and John have also played for the club whilst granddaughters Caitlin, Abby and Holly are members of the current Skye Camanachd Ladies squad. It was a real family affair with son-in-law Ronnie Reid also playing for Skye. The deepest sympathies from everyone at Skye Camanachd go out to Caley, Ewen and John, Catriona, Joan and Morag and the extended family at this sad time. Flora MacLean’s funeral takes place at The Church of Scotland, Portree on Thursday 25 January 2018. The service starts at noon with the internment at Portree Cemetery thereafter. |
