13 May 2013 Fergie MacDonald’s tune, "The Shinty Referee" has been re-recorded and will be released as a single towards the end of May 2013. The tune is a well known Fergie MacDonald composition which was originally recorded in 1967 and is named after former shinty referee, Henry MacInnes who is originally from Portnalong, Skye. However this particular version will also include lyrics with Fergie joining in on the vocals for the first time since he sang on “The Loch Maree Islands back in 1963”. The song reached number one in the charts and sold 50,000 copies in four weeks and Fergie is aiming for similar success with “The Shinty Referee”. The backing group are all shinty players and noted musicians. They include Gary Innes, Iain MacFarlane, Colm O’Rua and Allan Henderson. They will be joined on accordion and vocals by Fergie MacDonald who enjoys legendary status in Scottish music circles. It’s sure to be a cracker! |
