23 July 2013 Scotland U17 beat Dublin U17 (4-5) 17-12 (2-6) in their representative match in Newry on Tuesday 23 July 2013. The young Scots travelled to Ireland on Sunday 21 July 2013 but they suffered a blow ahead of the trip with the news that Glenurquhart’s Ewan Brady was unable to travel. He had represented the Scots in Ireland on two previous occasions so his experience was missed. The Scots, captained by Kinlochshiel’s Oliver MacRae, warmed up for the Dublin clash with the 23-20 win over a County Down / Armagh select, captained by James McGrath, on Monday 22 July 2013. The Scotland goals came from Kingussie’s Rory MacGregor who netted twice, Aberdour’s Cameron McCue and Kilmallie’s Martin Munro. The points were bagged by Lochaber’s Barry MacDonald, Fort William’s Arran MacPhee, Kingussie’s Bob MacGregor and Oliver MacRae from Kinlochshiel. However in their main match, the young Scots ran out (4-5) 17-12 (2-6) winners against their Dublin counterparts at Whitehall. Kingussie’s Rory MacGregor and Kilmallie’s Martin Munro were once again amongst the goals with Sean Morgan from Oban Camanachd and Kinlochshiel’s Conall Fraser, in the dying minutes of the game, getting the others. . The squad were accompanied by National Development Officer Ronald Ross, Highland Development Officer Russell Jones and Camanachd Association Youth Director Callum Duff. Following the successful tour, Ronald Ross said, “This tour is an integral part in these players’ pathway in the sport; it allows them to experience playing on a different platform and gives them a taster of being part of a National Squad before they make the step up to U21 and senior level. I am delighted with the performance from every one of the squad players; they did themselves and their country proud, and I look forward to seeing them develop in their playing career.” The Scotland U17 squad returned home on Wednesday 24 July 2013.
