24 April 2014 Portree High School enjoyed a double success as both their boys and girls teams defeated their Plockton High School counter-parts in Portree on Wednesday 23 April 2014.
Portree High School 1 Plockton High School 1 (Portree won 3-1 on penalties) The Portree High School boys’ team retained the Sorley MacLean Quaich after a penalty shoot-out win over Plockton High School at Pairc nan Laoch. Portree took the lead in this 3.30pm throw up thanks to a terrific James Pringle forehand strike on 35 minutes which flew into the top corner of the net. However Plockton levelled when Portree keeper Ryan Morrison made a great save from a deflected shot and Alasdair Nixon reacted quickest to score the rebound. In the end it took a penalty shoot-out to separate the teams and whilst Will Cowie, Kyle Pirie and John Gillies all scored with well hit penalties for Portree, Alasdair Nixon was Plockton’s only scorer from the spot with keeper Ryan Morrison saving three other penalties two with his feet and one with his hand. Portree captain Will Cowie was presented with the Cuach Somhairle. Will Cowie was named Portree man of the match whilst Nick Dalgety and Fergus Dobson shared the Plockton player of the match award.
Portree High School Girls 5 Plockton High School Girls 0 The girls clash between the Portree High School and Plockton High Schools girls’ teams took place at the Portree High School all-weather pitch, also with a 3.30pm throw up. Portree were comfortable winners in this one, beating Plockton 5-0 and gaining revenge for last year’s defeat. Caitlin MacLean scored four times with Anna MacDonald getting the other. Portree captain Helen Lamond was presented with the Cuach Sgathaich. Caitlin MacLean was not surprisingly named Portree player of the match whilst Catriona Kirk and Caitriona Stark shared the Plockton award. |
