Donnie Martin Named Skye Camanachd Chieftain | |
03 March 2022 Donnie Martin has been confirmed as the new Skye Camanachd Chieftain. He was unanimously elected at the club’s annual general meeting which took place at the Skye Camanachd Clubhouse on Thursday 17 February 2022 and he assumes the post for a three year period. Donnie Martin has been continuously involved with Skye Camanachd since the early 1970s. A former first and second team player, he is the only player at the club to have won the Sutherland Cup on four occasions – 1979, 1981, 1985 and 1988. Indeed the inaugural success in 1950 is the only one of the club’s Sutherland wins that he didn’t play in (he was injured that day). He has also held most other positions within the club having managed the first and second teams as well as having had a particularly successful period looking after Skye’s under-14 and under-17 sides. He has also previously been Club Chairman and he Chaired the Skye Camanachd Social Club for many years and was the long term Groundsman at Pairc nan Laoch until he stepped down from the Skye Camanachd Board in 2019. Donnie Martin takes over the Chieftain’s role from Andy MacPherson.
