21 February 2017 Several players will miss the start of the 2017 shinty season as their suspensions carry forward from the end of the last campaign. Newtonmore will start their bid for an eight successive Marine Harvest Premiership titles without Scotland defender Andy MacKintosh as his booking against Skye Camanachd in the team’s final match of the season triggers a one match ban for passing through the disciplinary points threshold. Inverness will have to do without the experienced Davie Glass for their opening Marine Harvest National Division fixture as a booking against Bute in the Highland Capital side’s last game of the season has led to a one game ban. Oban Lorn duo Calum MacLean and Shaun MacIver will also sit out the opening day for and accumulation of disciplinary points. Calum MacLean still has one game to serve of a two game ban whilst Shaun MacIver will be sidelined for the first two matches of the new season. Neil MacKenzie of Caberfeidh collected a red card in his side’s final match of the season, a 3-2 defeat to Glasgow Mid Argyll, so he will miss the opening two matches of the new term. Glenorchy’s Graham Morrice picked up a two match suspension courtesy of a red card in the goalless draw against Taynuilt in what was the Mart Park club’s last game of the season. |
