Co-operative Youth Shinty Festival | |
11 June 2013 Camanachd Association Highland Development Officer Russell Jones will host a free shinty taster session at the Bught Park, Inverness from 1pm on Saturday 15 June 2013. The Co-operative Youth Shinty Festival will see children aged 5-11 take part in a free taster session which will be led by Highland Development Officer, Russell Jones, assisted by a number of Camanachd Association qualified coaches. The Festival starts at 1pm and is open to both those who play shinty already and those who are new to the sport. All children who attend will receive a certificate of attendance and a goody bag courtesy of the sponsors. Russell Jones said, “This is an excellent opportunity for all kids to get involved in shinty. Whether it is their first taste of the sport or they already play in schools or clubs, the coaches and I will ensure that they have a fun afternoon that will encourage them to continue playing and ultimately help us increase youth participation.” Glenurquhart captain Stuart MacKintosh and Lovat captain Callum Cruden, who will later in the afternoon lead their sides out in Saturday’s Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final, visited Merkinch Primary School this week to invite the pupils along to the free Co-operative Youth Shinty Festival.
