The Camanachd Association will hold a special senior shinty sixes competition at Glasgow Green on Sunday 5 August 2018.
Shinty will play its part as a new era in world sport gets underway this summer as Glasgow and Berlin host the inaugural European Championships — an exciting new multi-sport event bringing together some of the continent’s leading sports including the existing European Championships for Athletics, Aquatics, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing and Triathlon with a new Golf Team Championships. This all takes place between 2 August 2018 and 15 August 2018 and the Camanachd Association has been offered the opportunity to showcase the game of shinty.
The shinty tournament will be played at Glasgow Green which will be the spectator hub/park for the Euro Championship event. The shinty tournament will form part of the spectator park for the day.
Approximately 4,500 athletes will compete and the extravaganza is expected to attract up to 30,000 spectators throughout. There will be a potential television audience of over one billion across Europe set to watch the action with the event being covered by free-to-air broadcasters, including the BBC, across the continent.
The shinty sixes will be a fully competitive event, tying in with the Camanachd Association’s 125th Anniversary celebrations. The tournament will start at noon.
And the winners will receive a trophy and medals which have been specially provided for this event.
The tournament is free to enter and, for more information, contact Regional Development Officer Paul MacArthur on paul.macarthur@shinty.com or 07851808643.
