04 March 2019 The Skye Camanachd second team lost 5-1 in their opening Mowi North Division 1 match against the Caberfeidh second team at Castle Leod on Saturday 2 March 2019. Ewen MacKinnon is in charge of the Skye seconds for the first month of the season and he was without the likes of John Angus MacInnes and keeper Murphy Henderson for this 2.30pm and David Grant took over in goal. The Caberfeidh second team were promoted to Mowi North Division 1 after finishing second in North 2 at the end of last season. Cabers started well, putting the visitors under some pressure and they took the lead though Kyle Grant I the opening minute. Skye keeper David Grant saved a shot from distance but the rebound fell for Kyle Grant who finished well, sweeping the ball into the net from a tight angle. Skye came more into it in the second quarter but it was Ruaraidh MacLeman who doubled Caberfeidh’s lead on 36 minutes. The ball was played in to the edge of the D where MacLeman swept it into the corner of the net for what was another tidy finish. James MacLeod killed the match a s a contest with quick-fire strikes on 57 and 60 minutes. First he hit the ball high into the net from the edge of the D and he then crashed as shot into roof of the net from a similar range. Skye introduced Iain Nicolson, who was on his way home from the postponed first team match, for the final 20 minutes of the contest. Skye’s Iain Murray led the forward line well and he pulled a goal back on 72 minutes. However James MacLeod completed his hat-trick on 82 minutes when he tucked away a rebound after an initial shot had been saved. Best for Skye were Andrew Banks, who was excellent at full back, Marcus Scott, who put in a power of work at buckshee back and full forward Iain Murray who used the ball intelligently throughout.
