Rolling Subs Is Only Succesful Resoution At Camanachd Association EGM. | |
03 February 2012 The proposal to confirm the introduction of rolling substitutes was the only resolution which found favour with the voting membership at the Camanachd Association EGM in Fort William on Friday 3 February 2012. A total of 33 voting members took part, either in proxy or through a representative. Delegates at the EGM heard that the rolling substitutes pilot was successfully implemented during the 2011 shinty season in all competitions and there were no dissenting voices as the motion was unanimously carried. However the other proposals found little favour with the membership. The proposal favoured by the referees Association to reduce the number of substitutes from 5 listed and 3 able to play to 3 listed with all 3 able to play only attracted 10 of the 33 votes. The most controversial proposal was to only have the defending team 5 yards from the ball at free-hits only attracted 3 of the 33 votes. Newtonmore spoke out against the proposal saying that it would take the skill out of the game. They felt it would create an increased chance of injury as most teams would have a player standing next to the free-hit taker and he would shoot goalwards with defenders expected to put their bodies in in the way. Kilmallie felt that the existing rules were sufficient and that referees had to enforce the 5 yard rule correctly so that the defending team was not gaining an advantage. Glenurquhart's proposal to allow referees to move a free hit 5 yards forward if defending teams do not adhere to the 5 yard rule at free hits did not find a seconder. The proposal from the Celtic Society to increase the penalty area only attracted 2 votes. Camanachd Association President Archie Robertson thanks those who took time to put proposals forward and he said that he hoped clubs would be encouraged to do this in the future.
