Bute Lift 2013 Mod Cup | |
16 October 2013 Bute beat Glasgow Mid Argyll on penalties to lift the 2013 Mod Cup at the Thornly Park Campus, Paisley on Saturday 12 October 2013. The Mod Cup is contested between the two teams closest to the town which hosts the National Mod and this year’s event is in Paisley. Kyles Athletic were the Mod Cup holders, having beaten Bute 9-1 in Dunoon last year, however the Islanders put this defeat behind them to lift the famous trophy just 12 months later. GMA and Bute contested the 2013 Marine Harvest South Division 1 title with the Glasgow side taking the honours. GMA came out on top in both league meetings – by a single goal in each match – and they also knocked Bute out of the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup. The goals came late in the game with Mark Bain putting GMA ahead on 75 minutes and David Whitelaw levelling just 5 minutes later. With no further scoring, and the sides tied at a goal apiece, referee Lachie Wood took the final to a penalty shoot-out which Bute won 3-2. There was a youth tournament ahead of this 1pm throw up which featured The Gaels, The Gaels P5, Strachur, Kyles Athletic and CCL. |
