Skye Camanachd are through to the Strathdearn Cup quarter-finals after they beat Boleskine 9-0 at Smith Park on Saturday 13 May 2017.

Skye Camanachd second team manager Kenny MacLeod was without Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod, Iain MacLellan and Calum Gibb who were all on first team duty. There were places for Stewart Taylor and Angus MacDonald.

Boleskine play a division below Skye in the North second tier and they were understrength for this tie. After winning two of their first three matches this season, the Farr-based team had lost their last four games.  

Throw up was at the earlier time of 1.30pm. 

The young Skye forward line was particularly pacey and showed good movement and Ross Gordon scored two really well-worked goals on 8 and 15 minutes to gain his team and early advantage.  

Gordon’s Skye U17 team-mate Connor Gilpin netted on 26 minutes with a great strike from distance.

Connor Gilpin then scored a quick-fire double on 32 and 35 minutes to grab a nine-minute hat-trick and Skye led 5-0 with only a third of the tie played.

Ross Gordon and Martin Pringle had to go off after suffering heavy knocks and they were replaced by U17 team-mates Stewart Taylor and Sam MacPhee.

Skye Camanachd player / manager Kenny MacLeod added his name to the score-sheet when he netted from close range on 41 minutes to make it 6-0 at the interval.

Skye replaced veteran Allan MacLeod with U17 player Angus MacDonald just before half-time whilst Martin Pringle was able to come back on for Kenny MacLeod at the break.

Skye still dominated after the restart but they seemed to lose their edge in front of goal.

Skye keeper Ryan Morrison made a fantastic stop, high to his left, to keep his clean sheet intact.

Three goals in the final 20 minutes took Skye’s tally to nine goals.

Ross Gordon, back on in place of Connor Gilpin after recovering from his earlier knock, was only on the pitch for a couple of minutes when he completed his hat-trick with 70 minutes played.

John Angus MacInnes, 10 minutes later, and youngster Martin Pringle with another well-worked effort 5 minutes from time, rounded off the win.

Skye will travel to play the Strathglass second team in the Strathdearn Cup quarter-finals on Saturday 17 June 2017.
