Beauly & Park Are Winners At 2015 RBS National First Shinty Festivals | |
04 March 2015 The 2015 RBS National First Shinty Festivals took place in Fort William on Saturday 28 February 2015. All participating teams had won through their area qualifiers and 25 teams and around 200 children took part in two separate tournaments on the day.
P5 & Under Tournament The P5 & Under tournament took place at Lochaber High School with play getting underway at 12.30pm The twelve teams were split into two leagues of six with the winners and runners up going forward to the semi-final stage. Defending champions Beauly topped League A with last year’s runners-up, Glasgow Gaels, clinching second place. Bute claimed top spot in League B with Kingussie finishing in second place on goal difference from Inverlochy. The first semi-final was between Beauly and Kingussie, with Beauly winning a high scoring encounter. The second semi-final between Bute and Glasgow Gaels was a cracking encounter, with Bute running out 3-2 winners. The final between Beauly and Bute was a classic with both sets of players giving everything. Beauly that came out on top winning 3-2 in what was a five goal thriller. The fair play award went to Ardnamurchan.
P7 & Under Tournament The P7 & Under competition was played at the Nevis Centre with play commencing at 12noon. The thirteen teams were split into two leagues of six with the winners and runners up going forward to the semi-final stage. The large crowd was treated to some wonderfully shinty from the best primary teams in Scotland. Both leagues were extremely competitive with Lochaber winning League A and Kyle taking second spot. League B was equally competitive with Park winning the group and Kyles Athletic clinching second place. The first semi-final saw Group A winners Lochaber taking on Kyles. Kyles were very impressive and put in a dominating performance to win 4-1. The second semi between Park and Kyle was dominated by the talented Park side who won 7-1 to clinch their place in the final. Lochaber beat Kyle to finish in third place. The final between two South teams - Park and Kyles - will go down as one of the best finals ever witnessed. Park got off to a flying start and went four goals ahead but Kyles rallied and brought the score back to 4:3. The next goal was going to be pivotal in the outcome of the final and it was Park who scored it. They then went on to win a pulsating encounter 6-4 in what can only be described as a breathtaking match. The fair play award went to Balloch Primary School from Inverness. Martin Girvan from tournament sponsors RBS presented the cup and medals to both sets of players and coaches. |
