Beauly Appoint Roger Cormack As New First Team Manager | |
22 January 2014 Beauly have appointed Roger Cormack as their new first team manager ahead of the start of the 2014 shinty season. Cormack takes over from Stephen MacLean and Iain Morrison who have co-managed the side for the last two seasons. The duo took Beauly to a second place finish in Marine Harvest North Division 1 last season, thus qualifying for shinty’s new national second tier, and they were also runners up to Bute in the Balliemore Cup and went out of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup at the quarter final stage to Kyles Athletic. MacLean’s tenure in charge stretches back a further number of years. Morrison had indicated that he did not wish to be considered for the manager’s position because of increased work commitments whilst MacLean withdrew his application at the club’s specially convened meeting on Monday 20 January 2014. This left Roger Cormack as the sole applicant. Cormack assisted in the running of the Beauly second team last season and he has previously undertaken co-manager responsibilities with Stephen MacLean. In a club statement, a Beauly spokesman said, “Beauly Shinty Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Roger Cormack as club manager. He was the sole applicant for the position after Stephen MacLean withdrew his application at a specially convened meeting. Roger, who has enjoyed a long and distinguished playing career with Beauly, will now bring that experience to the management role. In the past he has undertaken co-management duties with Stephen but this will be his first solo foray in the top job. The club has no doubt that Roger will enjoy success in his new position as we enter the new Marine Harvest National Division this season. The club would also like to pay tribute to the outgoing management team of Stephen MacLean and Iain Morrison for all their hard work and dedication to Beauly. They leave the club in great shape and we feel their efforts are worthy of recognition.” |
