Beauly 1 Skye Camanachd 0 | |
03 April 2017 The Skye Camanachd second team went down 1-0 in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 match against the Beauly second team at Braeview Park on Saturday 1 April 2017. Beauly had Barrie MacDonald in their side for this 2.30pm throw up as he made his way back from injury. There was also a place for Sean Stewart who, along with MacDonald, Martin Davidson and former Skye youth player Dougie Blaine, made up an experienced forward line as Beauly player / manager Kyle MacDonald looked to follow up on the previous week’s 1-0 win over the Kinlochshiel seconds. Skye Camanachd second team manager Kenny MacLeod initially made five changes to his squad. Defender Jamie Gillies was sidelined with a broken ankle so James Morrison started in defence whilst injury also ruled out Ross Gordon and Angus MacDonald. David MacInnes was unavailable whilst Murphy Henderson dropped out of the squad. There were call ups for Jamie Gannon, Connor Gilpin, Ross Nicolson and Ross Graham. However with the Skye first team match called off on the Friday evening, boss MacLeod was able to add Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod and Iain MacLellan, who had been promoted from the second team to the first team earlier in the season to cover injuries. There was a also a starting spot for youngster James Pringle. Ross Nicolson and Kenny MacLeod dropped out of the initial squad. The pitch was heavy after the persistent rain so both teams had to adapt to the conditions. Skye’s James Pringle went close with a superb volley whilst Iain MacLellan also threatened to put the visitors in front. Martin Pringle then tested Kyle MacDonald with the Beauly custodian showing his agility as threw himself to the side to keep the ball out. Beauly’s best first half chances but Skye keeper Jamie Gannon cleared his lines without really being tested The first half ended goalless with Skye’s John Angus MacInnes seeing one effort come back off the post. The first real chance of the second 45 minutes saw Kyle MacDonald use his feet to turn a Martin Pringle shot away for a corner. Just as he did a week earlier, Ross Forbes scored what proved to be the only goal of the game. Forbes gave Skye keeper Gannon no chance with a well-struck shot on 56 minutes after good lead up play from Barrie MacDonald, Sean Stewart and a precise pass from Callum Flynn. Jamie Gannon saved with his feet from Callum Flynn midway through the second half, following a Ross Forbes shy. Beauly goalie Kyles MacDonald continued to stand between Skye and an equalising goal for the remainder of the game. Even when MacDonald misjudged a James Pringle strike, luck was with the home side as the ball came back off the post. Keeper Kyles MacDonald and MacKay Murray were key for Beauly and it was good to see Dougie Blaine back in the fold. Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod, Connor Gilpin and James Morrison were best on a frustrating afternoon for Skye.
