14 August 2013 Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore meet in the Artemis Macaulay Cup Final at Mossfield on Saturday 17 August 2013. Kyles Athletic had to work hard to get to this year’s final and they needed extra-time to get past two of their three opponents.
Saturday 25 May 2013 Artemis Macaulay Cup - First Round Bute 2 Kyles Athletic 3 Kyles Athletic were given a fright by Bute at the Meadows, before running out 3-2 winners. James Craig put the Islanders ahead on 10 minutes but Roddy MacDonald made it 1-1 on 23 minutes. Robert Walker put Bute back in front on 27 minutes only for Roddy MacDonald to equalise again on the stroke of half time. Kyles Athletic talisman MacDonald completed his hat-trick on 57 minutes with what proved to be the winning goal.
Saturday 15 June 2013 Artemis Macaulay Cup – Quarter Final Oban Camanachd 3 Kyles Athletic 4 (after extra time) It took extra-time for Kyles Athletic to edge out Oban Camanachd by the odd goal in seven in their 3pm throw up at Mossfield and they will now face south rivals Inveraray in the Artemis Macaulay Cup semi finals. Dunkie Kerr put Kyles ahead after 12 minutes only for Lewis Cameron to level a couple of minutes later. Roddy MacDonald gave Kyles the advantage again on 18 minutes and they stayed in front until 71 minutes when Gavin Stobbart made it 2-2. A Roberto Zavaroni strike on 83 minutes looked to have won the tie for the Tighnabruaich men but Andrew MacCuish drew Oban Camanachd, for whom full back Craig MacMillan was outstanding, level for the third time just before the full time whistle. Roddy MacDonald scored what proved to be the winner 10 minutes into the extra-time period. Graham Cameron was the match referee and he red carded Oban Camanachd’s Garry Lord and Robbie MacLeod from Kyles Athletic following a tussle.
Saturday 20 July 2013 Artemis Macaulay Cup Semi Final Inveraray 2 Kyles Athletic 4 (after extra time) Inveraray and Kyles Athletic met for the fourth time this season with the Tighnabruaich side running out 4-2 winners after extra time in their 2pm throw up at Mossfield. Chris Crawford was an injury absentee for Inveraray. Both teams had chances in the first half but it was a 54 minute goal from former Kilmallie player Peter McIntyre which put Inveraray ahead after 50 minutes. Robbie MacLeod levelled for Kyles on 54 minutes only for Russell MacKinlay to put Inveraray back in front a minute later. Dunkie Kerr made it 2-2 on 65 minutes and, just as in the AGJ Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final, the tie went into extra time. Roddy MacDonald put Kyles ahead for the first time in the tie on 100 minutes and Thomas Whyte made it 4-2 on 110 minutes to take his team into the final. David Mitchell was the match referee.
Colin MacDonald is the match referee for this much anticipated clash. Admission is just £5 for adults with £3 concessions and U12s get free entry. Throw up is at 2pm and the whole match will be televised live on BBC2 Scotland. |
