Alistair Cruickshank, Staffin | |
15 March 2016 Everyone at Skye Camanachd was saddened to hear of the passing of former player Alistair Cruickshank. Alistair Cruickshank played wing centre for Skye Camanachd in the 1970s. He was a member of the 1974 Portree High School MacBean Cup winning team, under the watchful eye of coach DR MacDonald, before breaking into the senior side. He travelled home from working off the Island to represent the club each week. His playing days ended when he suffered a fractured skull in the late 1970s and this also coincided with a posting in Uist as part of a new career with the police. On returning to Skye, his employment included working for Jansvans as well as latterly at Columba 1400. The shinty connection with Skye Camanachd remains to this day as Alistair’s grandson Jamie Gillies plays youth shinty for Skye Camanachd and has just broken into the Skye Camanachd second team this season. His daughter Fi also organises the merchandise sales for the club. Alistair’s nephews Stuart MacKintosh and Ally MacKintosh play shinty for the Glenurquhart first team. Alistair Cruickshank’s funeral takes place at the Church of Scotland, Staffin on Thursday 17 March 2016 at 2pm with the internment thereafter at Cill A Bhealaich Cemetery. The sympathies of everyone at Skye Camanachd go out to Amy and the extended family. |
