Alba Name Squad For Iomain Cholmcille 7 | |
29 October 2014 Scotland have named their squad for Iomain Cholmcille a Seachd in Glasgow next month. Iomain Cholmcille, the international shinty/hurling series for Gaelic speakers, will be held at Lochinch Park on the Southside of Glasgow on Saturday 8 November 2014. This will be the seventh running of the series and it will be held in Glasgow for the first time. A large crowd is expected for this event which has grown radically in the last few years. The Corn Cholmcille international game will throw-in at 1.30pm between Alba, representing Scottish Gaelic, and Fir Uladh, who will be representing Irish Gaelic. The Scotland squad will be under the management of Aonghas Macdonald, who is part of the coaching team at Skye Camanachd. The squad has a great deal of experience, with Skye captain, and Aonghas’ brother, Gilleasbuig in the squad. Also in the squad are two players playing for the first time, Alasdair Ferguson and Graham Black, who play for Aberdeen University but came through the Uist Camanachd youth system. Over and above, Gilleasbuig and Aonghas, there are two other pairs of brothers involved, Ally and Innes Lamont from Camanachd Leòdhais and the MacInnes brothers, John Angus and David from Skye. Other players include Sean MacLeod of Lewis making this seventh appearance in an Alba strip, and Iain “Spod” MacLeod, the young Skye keeper still in primary school when the first Iomain Cholmcille was played in 2007 in Oban. Fir Uladh, the team who will be representing Irish have also named their panel for Iomain Cholmcille with their manager Padaig Ó Mianain selecting players from across the area. Iomain Cholmcille co-ordinator, Eoghan Stewart, was delighted with the two squads; “The Alba squad is a mark of how the event has grown and how Gaelic education has, little by little, helped both the language and the sport”. “Aonghas will be a perfect manager, he is a great shinty man and a great Gaelic speaker and he will give a fine example to the lads under his command.” “Fir Uladh will be much stronger than in the last two years as they are Ireland’s sole representatives. They are much more knowledgeable of the game and it will be a tremendous spectacle for the spectator.” Alba Squad Sean MacLeod, Paddy Sinclair, Ally Lamont, Innes Lamont, Paul Duke (Camanachd Leòdhais), Alex Dunnings (Oban Camanachd) Doneil MacLeod (Boleskine), Kenneth Campbell (Tayforth), Alasdair Ferguson, Graham Black (Aberdeen University/Uist), Mark Fraser (Aberdeen University), Gilleasbuig Macdonald, David MacInnes, John Angus MacInnes, Alasdair “Spod” MacLeod, Iain “Spod” MacLeod, Alasdair “Digg” Macdonald, David Grant (Skye Camanachd), Crisdean Finlayson (Lochcarron), Iain Nicolson (Lovat) Fir Uladh Squad Joe Ó Dochartaigh (Sleacht Néill, Derry), Pádraig Ó Tiarnaigh (Eoghan Rua, Derry), Malachaí Ó hÁgáin (An Suaitreach, Derry), Cathaoir Ó Caiside (Sleacht Néill, Derry), Joe Ó Lochlainn (Sleacht Néill, Derry), Liam Óg Ó Flannagáin (Sleacht Néill, Derry), Ainle Ó Cairealláin (Na Piarsaigh, Cork), Éanna Ó Caiside (Sleacht Néill, Derry), Colm Duffin (Tír na nÓg, Antrim), Seán Ó Corráin (Naomh Gall, Antrim), Aodhán Nutley (Craobh Rua Camlocha, Armagh), Brian Mac an tSionnaigh (An Cairdinéal Ó Dónaill, Antrim), Éamonn Mac Lochlainn (Seamróga Bhéal Feirste, Antrim), Frankie Ó Ceallaigh (Sleacht Néill, Derry) Oisín Mac an Bhiocáire (Ó Donnabháin Rosa, Antrim), Naoise Ó Cairealláin (Naomh Pól, Antrim), Caoimhín Ó Daimhín (Clann na nGael, Armagh), Déaglán Ó Laithbheartaigh (Leamhaigh, Derry), Conchúr Ó Muirí (Baile na Scríne, Derry), Pádraig Ó Mianáin (Eoghan Rua, Derry), Damian Ó Néill (Naomh Colum Cille, Tyrone) |
