17 November 2018 The 2018 Skye Camanachd player of the year awards were presented at an end of season Awards Night & Dinner at the Skye Camanachd Clubhouse on Saturday 17 November 2018. The 2018 first team player of the year was Stewart Grant who received the John “The Caley” Trophy. Stewart Grant has been a consistent performer over the last couple of seasons and, having come through the youth ranks, he is now one of the first names on the senior team sheet. Forward Ross Gordon has been prolific for the Skye Camanachd second team this season and he was rewarded with the second team player of the year accolade. Scottish international Caitlin MacLean was named both Skye Camanachd Ladies player of the year and players’ player of the year. The ladies young player of the year was Essie Dibble whilst Rachael Shaw collected the ladies most promising award. The ladies most improved player prize was shared between Leah MacLeod and Molly MacKinnon. James Morrison collected the coveted “Caman DR” after a season in which he started with the second team but quickly switched to the senior side. James Morrison was also a key part of the Skye Camanachd U17 Marine Harvest London Shield winning team. The Angus Murchison Trophy, presented to the person who has done most for the club off the field of play, was awarded to second team manager Kenny MacLeod. MacLeod also led the U17s to Marine Harvest London Shield success and carried out a huge amount of work administering the club’s pitch-side advertising boards, attracting many new advertisers. Ruaraidh MacLeod, who scored both goals in the side’s 2-1 Marine Harvest London Shield win over their Fort William counter-parts, rounded off a successful season with the U17 player of the year prize. The U14 award will be made at Portree High School on Monday 19 November 2018. |
