2016 Scotland Womens’ Coaching Team Confirmed | |
18 May 2016 The Womens Camanachd Association have confirmed their Scotland coaching team as preparations begin ahead of the 2016 Shinty / Camogie encounter with Irish opposition. It is no surprise that Stuart Reid continues as Head Coach with the Glenurquhart defender having led the Scots to three straight wins over the last three years. Reid will be supported by two Assistant Coaches and there is also continuity with Newtonmore player Scott Campbell agreeing to extend his three year tenure by accepting one of these positions. There is a new addition to the other Assistant Coach role with Glasgow Mid Argyll player Katie Drain appointed. Drain, who is the Camanachd Association's North Development Officer, is no stranger to international scene having earned nine Scotland caps and coached the Scottish Universities squad. She has also won all senior honours in the game with her club side GMA. Former Lochcarron player and manager Ross Brown, who is currently a Camanachd Association appointed referee, is the new Team Physio. Brown is a Paramedic with the Scottish Ambulance Service in Glasgow having previously being based in the Highlands. The WCA held their first international trial in Newtonmore on Sunday 15 May 2016. There was a fantastic turnout with 64 girls from 12 different clubs taking part. The coaches will have great difficulty whittling the numbers down to a final squad. The next international trial will be held in conjunction with the WCA Development Camp in July 2016 at Strathallan and more information on this will be issued shortly. This 2016 Shinty / Camogie international between Scotland and Irish opposition will take at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 22 October 2016. |
