2016 Oban Camanachd Player of the Year Awards | |
29 November 2016 Oban Camanachd had plenty to celebrate at their Annual Dinner Dance at the Oban Rugby Club on Saturday 26 November 2016. The Mossfield club has just had one of their most successful seasons in recent years which included a Camanachd Cup Final appearance for their first team and London Shield and MacQuiston Cup successes for their U17 side. The player of the year ceremony was of particular interest with several contenders. However Lorne Dickie’s fine performances throughout the season, which also caught the eye of Scotland Head Coach Ronald Ross and earned him a Scotland cap, secured Lorne Dickie the main prize of the night. The first team goal of the season was scored by Daniel MacVicar against Lochaber in the 4-2 Scottish Cup win in the televised semi-final win at the Taynuilt Sports Field. MacVicar’s strike made it 3-1 on 48 minutes after Andrew MacCuish picked up possession on the Oban left and he played a great cross to the edge of the D where Daniel MacVicar allowed the ball to run across his body before slamming it into the net, past a helpless Callum MacDonald in the Lochaber goal. The Oban Camanachd second team, Lochside Rovers, recognised the performances of Robert Alexander, who also made some appearances in the senior side, and he was named their player of the year. The Lochside Rovers endeavour award went to Chris Eccleston. Daniel MacVicar collected the Oban Camanachd U17 player of the year award for the second year in a row. Craig Kilpatrick picked up the U17 award for endeavour. There was also a second successive U14 player of the year award for Daniel Sloss although this year he shared the honour with Euan Logan. Iain MacFarlane was the most improved U14 player. |
