2015 RBS MacTavish Cup Final …………. 2 Days To Go! | |
11 June 2015 There is a feast of youth shinty ahead of the RBS MacTavish Cup Final between Newtonmore and Glenurquhart at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 13 June 2015. There will be two youth finals ahead of the main event and both throw up at 1pm. The RBS MacTavish Juvenile Cup Final between Beauly U17 and Skye Camanachd U17 takes place on the Bught Park main pitch and the Tulloch Primary Schools Final between Newtonmore and Kyles Athletic will be play on the Bught Park outside pitch.
Beauly U17 v Skye Camanachd U17 Beauly U17 received a first round bye in this year’s tournament before beating Glenurquhart U17 7-0 in the quarter-finals. Craig Rankin and Daniel Lamont each scored twice with Robbie Brindle grabbing a hat-trick. The Beauly youngsters followed that up with a 2-1 extra-time win over Newtonmore U17. Once again Robbie Brindle was the main man, getting both goals to seal a place in the final. Sandy Elrick, Craig Rankin and Robbie Brindle will be key players for Coach Neil Brindle in this show-piece match. Skye Camanachd U17 were also given a first round bye in this year’s competition. They then had a walk-over in the quarter-finals as Lovat U17 withdrew their team from the competition. A Ruairidh MacLeod double earned the Islanders a 2-2 draw with Kinlochshiel U17 in the semi-finals. With no further scoring during extra-time, the tie went to a penalty shoot-out which Skye won 3-0 thanks to strikes from Ruairidh MacLeod, James Pringle and Connor Gilpin and some great goal-keeping from Ryan Morrison. Skye will miss Ross Nicolson for the final as he suffered a broken collar-bone playing for the Skye Camanachd second team. John Gillies, James Pringle and Ruairidh MacLeod will be key players for Coach Davie Pringle. Both Beauly and Skye Camanachd do not have first or second team fixtures this weekend so many of their players and officials will take the chance to attend the final to cheer on their team. Newtonmore v Kyles Athletic The Newtonmore primary school youngsters are having a good season and they have also reached the MacKay Cup Final. They won the Tulloch League North Area Qualifying Cup, beating Lochaber 3-1 in the final. Newtonmore qualified from a group with Tomnacross, Lochcarron and Portree before beating Kirkhill 4-1 in the last four of the twelve team tournament. Kyles Athletic primary school age team have also been in impressive form this season. They narrowly lost out to Park in this year’s RBS National First Shinty Finals in Fort William. The Kyles youngsters are part of an exciting youth network at Tighnabruaich, coach by some club stalwarts including Dan MacRae. There is sure to be a large support for both teams.
