2015 Balliemore Cup Final ………….. TODAY! | |
18 July 2015 The clock is ticking down ahead of the 2015 Balliemore Cup Final between Glasgow Mid Argyll and Beauly at the Dell on Saturday 18 July 2015. The Balliemore Cup originates back to the early 20th century when Captain Colin MacRae of Balliemore ran a shinty competition in the Kyles of Bute area. The Balliemore Cup trophy was donated by his brother Major MacRae, Gilstrap and competing teams included Kyles, Bute, North Bute, Balliemore and Rhubaan Rovers. However after a long period in abeyance, the cup was presented to the Camanachd Association by Captain Duncan MacRae of Eilean Donan to be used as a trophy for national competition between teams at an intermediate level. The participating teams had little chance of winning the Camanachd Cup and were also ineligible for the Sutherland Cup. The cup was first played for as an intermediate trophy in 1985 when Bute beat Glengarry 3-2. Skye Camanachd are the current holders.
